Klootchy Creek Is Legit

I was staying in Manzanita over the Fourth and took my three younger grandsons to the new trail system at Klootchy Creek, just east of the 101-26 interchange.

I was impressed.

We rode up gravel for a bit and stumbled onto a black diamond line called DeFib. It had a serious sketch factor - especially when it’s wet - and should be a favorite of the DH crowd.

We then hit the fantastic Greenwood Trail, which is among the best-designed climbing lines I’ve ever been on. We descended on Chris Cross, which was also a blast. Both of these have a green rating and are highly recommended. More trail is scheduled to be opened on July 20th.

The work done by the North Coast Trail Alliance crew is clearly evident. They might have only seven miles now because they are just getting started, but if the next 33 are anything like the first seven, this is going to be a destination trail system.

They are planning a work party for the fall. Get your ass down there to lend a hand.
