It was hot. It was grueling. It pushed people out there to the ragged edge. Mission accomplished.
Scott Bradway, Allen Legoboru, and Matthew Crampton all broke four hours but I’m a little hesitant to declare a winner because of the iffi-ness of one or more of the ride routes. Bill Larsen, Scooter Sutterer, Bob Lessard, Joe Van Leuven, and Daveed Fleischer broke five hours.
Ride-of-the-Day was a no-brainer. At 73, Russ Speirn cut an incredible 1:17 off his 2018 time. Who does that?
Providing multiple ride options was a lot of work because it required extra flagging. However, it was successful in drawing a wide range of riders. Twenty-one did the Enchilada, eight did the Taco, five did the Chimichanga (explanation below), and five did the Chips & Salsa.
Steve Luther super-manned over the bars on that section of Deja Vu between Creation and Little Sister. He said it was a very hard hit. He dusted himself off and finished the ride. I checked with him on Sunday. In the morning, he said he was feeling good and there was no breakage. Later in the day, he heard a pop and thinks he has a broken rib . . . How hard was it? Kim said she was tired . . . Joel Rogauskas and Steve Basden finished the ride on single-speeds . . . Not a single person complained that the ride was too easy.
